Baladio is a free, privacy-first desktop music player for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Built for people who care about owning their music collection, it delivers a clean, beautiful, and distraction-free listening experience with zero ads, subscriptions, or corporate middlemen.
Yes, 100%. Baladio is published under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0). There are no paywalls, hidden in-app purchases, data tracking, or subscription tiers. The entire source code is openly hosted on GitHub for anyone to inspect, audit, or contribute to.
By default, Baladio checks your system’s standard Music folder. You can also pick any folder on any internal or external drive directly inside Baladio by navigating to Settings → Data & Storage. Baladio will index your library instantly.
Baladio supports MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, M4A, OGG, and other major audio formats. It extracts embedded album art, artists, track metadata, and ID3 tags automatically.
Yes, absolutely. Baladio is fundamentally local-first. All your audio playback, playlist sorting, user queue management, and offline audio exports work without an internet connection. Internet connectivity is only used for optional online features like real-time synced lyrics from LRCLIB or searching via YouTube Discovery.
Baladio embeds self-managing yt-dlp integration. This lets you search YouTube within Baladio, stream audio instantly, and download high-quality audio files directly into your songs folder with one click.

The Story

Before Baladio, I used to sort my music in folders and treated them as playlists. I listened to my music by opening and playing them in VLC player. But as the number of my songs grew, it became a hassle to organize songs and listen to them. Then I had the idea of building a dedicated music player web app. Then the work began. What first started as a weekend project, named "lofi music player" has now evolved into a full desktop app with a product page, a logo and a proper branding.

Open Source

Baladio is GPL-3.0 licensed and lives openly on GitHub. Read the code, audit it, fork it, improve it. Contributions, ideas, and honest feedback are always welcome.
